How the design project starts

Today hedonism is not a constant search for various pleasures, but on the contrary, the ability to enjoy the little things of everyday life. What defines our daily lives more than the interiors where we spend our time? Simple desires to drink coffee on the terrace, work by the window, or read, turning off the overhead light, can be considered a whim and ignored, or you can take that into account and get a cozy home to which you want to return day by day.

Interior design is a rational work with an emotional component, which starts with questions about the rhythm of customers’ life, habits and ideas about the apartment that would suit them. This information allows us to imagine the future home and to make all the important decisions on its basis. How many people live here now or will live here in a year, how often do the hosts receive guests, do they consider it necessary to separate the bedroom and workplace, kitchen and living room? The answers give an opportunity to present in detail the life of the owners and organize it in a convenient way.

The concept of interior design grows out of thoughts about the ideal apartment. At the first stage of work on the project, the task is to create a functional scenario, i.e. it is necessary to determine the principle of planning, purpose of rooms, interrelation between indoor and outdoor areas. Often, new planning is created despite the existing configuration, as standard options rarely meet the needs of residents. This stage also includes the choice of color, materials, and lighting.

The purpose of developing an interior design project is to give a detailed idea of the result and prepare drawings for its implementation. After approval of the final version, the second stage of the process begins, namely the preparation of working documents. At this point, the details of the project are determined, specifications of materials and equipment are drawn up. Most of the interiors of the studio contain original furniture and decor, their drawings are also included in the project.

Although the designer communicates with the customer mainly through the images, as a result, the interior interacts with the residents not only visually. In the perception of space an important role is played by the feeling of materials to the touch: fabrics, wood, ceramics. For example, textiles played an important role in the QZ Apartment. The combination of heavy, dark curtains with light ones creates a cozy atmosphere not only due to the ability to flexibly adjust the natural light during the day, but also simply because of the warm tactile sensations. The theme of the fabric is continued by the facades of the closet in one of the rooms, their texture resembles rough linen to the touch.

Individuality of every project

Apart from the work done with color, composition and choice of materials, it is equally important to properly present its results, so lighting can make the picture whole or cross out its essence. The primary question is the location and number of windows, because recreation and work areas, where natural light is a priority and desirable, are oriented to them. No less important is where these windows face: the open area, the yard, a neighbor’s window, a brick wall or tree canopy. A specific part of the functional scenario are light sources, which not only serve a utilitarian purpose, but also play a key role in creating comfortable conditions for work or leisure, daily activities and important events. Lighting affects the perception of space, with its help you can divide the room into functional zones, emphasize the details; it can also be an independent element of decor.

But no matter how detailed the interior design is, there are things that are unpredictable such as work clutter on the desk, a motley collection of family utensils or colorful spines of the home library. These are details that would distort the consistent picture of the visualization, but in practice they make the apartment alive. Although decorative elements are perceived primarily as a way to maintain and complement the overall picture, their function is not exclusively utilitarian. The interior should be filled with things the residents like, because it is the emotional component that makes every place original and personal. The project often includes individually designed furniture and decor elements, so no detail stands out from the overall concept and at the same time is an organic part of the life of the owners.

A combination of a consistent functional scenario, a holistic visual image and appropriately selected materials creates a full picture – a place that will be associated with pleasant memories of everyday moments and important events. So in the development of interior design, the main thing is to pay attention to the original data and avoid artificial restrictions. It makes no sense to invent extraordinary solutions if they are not dictated by the place itself or, as in the case of WA Interior, by the customer. In short, the most difficult task is not to invent too much, because in our understanding, real comfort is impossible to notice and realize, only to feel.
